DescriptionThis instrument can be played manually and also mechanically with a cylinder. It has a range of 4 octaves. A Harmonium plays by using foot pedals to push air through a series of free reeds. The cylinder is set in motion by a crank.
Accompanying textsBy sliding register knobs in or out you can achieve three different sounds, including a chorus-like voice called voix celeste.
The instrument was owned by the Amsterdam organ music arranger Piet Maas (?-1961), who used it to work out his arrangements. For this purpose it was set up in the premises of the barrel organ rental company G. Perlee at 119 Westerstraat in Amsterdam, where Piet Maas was employed as a music arranger until the mid-1950s. After his death in 1961, it came into the collection of Museum Speelklok.
