DescriptionThis little organ lured passers-by with more than just its cheerful music. When the lid is opened, magicians and moving figures perform tricks. On the left back is a small lever that allows you to control the little man in the corner, who then holds up his hand to receive money. We also see two ladies making music and an elaborate ball game on a table, with dice and other objects (such as a little bird) also appearing.
Accompanying textsThis cylinder street organ has 25 keys, 8 melodies, and 3 manually switchable registers of organ pipes. The organ still plays its original - popular, simple - music, as the cylinder has never been replaced.
This little organ dates from the first half of the 19th century. The Black Forest (barrel) organ and musical clock builder Ignaz Bruder (1780-1845) is generally considered the founder of the successful Waldkirch barrel organ building trade. He is the progenitor of an important dynasty of barrel organ builders: Ignaz Bruder Söhne; Wilhelm Bruder Söhne; Gebrüder Bruder; Alfred Bruder. This dynasty left a clear mark on German barrel organ building in the period 1830-1930.
