DescriptionThis tabletop disc-playing music box sits in a walnut-veneered wooden case with rounded corners and a diamond-shaped motif created by the direction of the wood grain in the veneer. The musical movement has a double playing comb with 60 teeth per comb, plus 2x 4 extra teeth for the tubular bells. On the inside of the lid is a black and white print/photo behind glass of the Pont du MontBlanc and the île Rousseau in Geneva. The music box can be started by lowering the lever on the inside of the box and stopped by raising it again. The tubular bells have a lever near the frame that allows you to turn them on and off as desired. The box is wound up on the right side with a separate winding lever.
Accompanying textsSeveral musical effects have been added to this record music box. For example, the music disc plays not one musical comb, but two. And in addition to these playing combs, a series of tubular bells sound. As a hammer strikes these elongated, thin tubes, a delicate sound is heard.
Paul Lochmann, an early purveyor of the disc-playing music box, was one of the founders of Symphonion. After 25 years, he left his own company to start making exceptionally beautiful disc music boxes on a relatively small scale.
