DescriptionThe spring to operate the playing mechanism is placed in a so-called spring barrel. This spring barrel is also the cylinder for the music program. This type of movement with a stacking comb is also called 'Musique à Barillet'. The comb of the movement consists of nine teeth stacked on top of each other, which are fixed to a base plate with two screws. In six of these teeth, the end has been made thicker, causing a lower tone to sound when the comb tooth is played.
Accompanying textsThere is one melody on the cylinder.
This stacked comb playing work no longer has a case, but this type of musical movement was used in the smallest trinkets such as rings, seals and watch keys. This one most likely belonged in a seal or pendant. This is the oldest form of comb playing work found in watches.
