DescriptionLibellion type standing clocks are quite rare. The music has no set format or length, as would be dictated by a disc or cylinder. In fact, because the music program is on a cardboard book, it can be any length. This Libellion is the "model #2"; it contains a spring motor drive that moves the music book across the playing mechanism, with a stop mechanism that keeps the book from running too far.
Accompanying textsWith cardboard books, repertoire can in principle be varied endlessly. For each hour a different short tune sounds each time.
The Libellion musical movement was highly acclaimed at the time. It won the "First Prize" at the World Exposition in Chicago in 1893, Paris in 1900 (Gold Medal) and at the 1904 St. Louis Exhibition.
