Accompanying textsKlinkend VerhaalThe possibility of changing the discs that carry the musical programme makes the repertoire very diverse. The range of the box (the musical disposition, or tone sequence) is as follows: c-c-f-f-g-a-bes-c-d-e-f-g-c-c-d-e-f-f-g-g-a-a-b flat-b flat-b-c-c-d-e-f.
Musical NotePolyphon was one of Europe's largest disc music box manufacturers. For decades, the company built music boxes in various styles and sizes, playing to the tastes of the time and turning out well-received products. The company was founded in 1887 by Gustave Brachhausen and Paul Riessner. A salient detail is that until then, both had worked for rival company Symphonion in Gohlis (near Leipzig), but left after a dispute over patents (and, no doubt, money).
The mechanisms of the Polyphon music boxes (from 1895 Polyphon Musikwerke A.G.) were of high quality. Thus, precautions were taken to prevent owners from overwinding the music boxes. The sound of the Polyphon music boxes was attractive and louder than most other music boxes. At the height of their production, the firm employed around 1,000 workers.
