DescriptionThis miniature street organ works the same way as a large street organ: the musical information is stored in a card book and the instrument is driven by muscle power.
Accompanying textsThe organ has decked wooden pipes and 25 reading holes in the keyboard. Like most street organs, the repertoire is a colorful mix of beloved songs: "An der schoenen blauen Donau," "Mackie Messer," "La Paloma," "Abide with me," "Yellow Submarine," and many more.
This organ was commissioned by the Amsterdam organ grinder Jan de Wit and built by the Perlee company in the 1960s. De wit also hired woodcarver Cees van Soestbergen to make a fitting façade for the organ, which he played on the streets of Amsterdam for a long time.
Jan de Wit is said to have been the first organ grinder in the Netherlands with a motorized organ.
