Accompanying textsThe repertoire on the cylinder was completely changed around 1900. The pipework is also no longer original.
In the last quarter of the 18th century, furniture raffles were held regularly in Amsterdam. Furniture makers placed newspaper ads announcing which pieces of furniture were being raffled off and how much a lottery ticket cost (although you often had to read between the lines, as the activity was not technically permitted). Boyon's raffles were more expensive (f21 per lot) than those of the average furniture maker (closer to f7); this makes sense, since the production of musical clocks was much more expensive and complicated than that of most standard furniture.
