DescriptionThis marotte - a name for a stick with a doll's head on it - is dressed in rather fine materials. Its pink and white outfit is silk, and its wig is made of "kid mohair": the very soft and extra curly first fur of an angora goat lamb, often used for doll wigs because of these rare characteristics.
The inside of this marotte (the musical movement) consists of only a few parts: the music cylinder, the playing comb, the base plate, the cylinder wheel and the worm. These 5 parts make up the heart of the marotte. The shaft of the worm is attached to the stick on which the puppet sits - a very simple but effective layout. Around the musical movement is a cardboard shell on top of which which sits the surface material of the marotte. This cylinder playing work is made so that the puppet can turn in two directions and you will hear the melody either way.
Accompanying textsThe marotte plays one tune - "Der fröhliche Wanderer" (the tune also known as "Falderie, Faldera").
It is possible that the current playing work in this marotte is not original, but has since been replaced. The current playing mechanism may have been made by the Swiss firm of Reuge.
