DescriptionConsole clocks are so called because they were mounted on a matching console that is attached to the wall. This kind of Swiss console clock is called a 'Neuchâteloise,' after the city of Neuchâtel - the production center for this type of clock. The beautiful green panels are painted bronze plates, perhaps in an imitation of the more expensive 'corne-verte' style.
Accompanying textsThis clock has 12 bells and 22 hammers. The music is quite unusual for a bell-playing clock due to the extensive use of trills and ornaments.
This particular clock belonged to the Dutch royal family and is now on loan from Paleis Het Loo.
