DescriptionThis mechanical parlor organ consists of a walnut cabinet with 5 cylinders that play via the helicoidal notation system. This means that the melody is notated on the cylinder in a spiral. This allowed long opera overtures - very popular at the time - to be played on a parlor organ.
Accompanying textsThe organ has 42 keys: 38 for music and 4 for changing stops. One cylinder is currently playable: the overture from the opera "Il Pirata" by Vincenzo Bellini.
The Schöpperle firm merged in 1851 into the Aktiengesellschaft für Uhrenfabrikation Lenzkirch, A.G.U.L, which was taken over by Junghans in 1929. Salon organs like this one, with spiral-notated cylinders, emerged in the 19th century and were very popular.
