DescriptionThis Viennese column clock has alabaster columns and an elegant arch decorated with pieces of mother of pearl. The clock activates the musical playing work every whole hour by means of a wire running from the movement to the playing work.
Accompanying textsThe clock's black polished wooden base houses an early 4-melody cylinder movement with a segment comb (two teeth per segment). The clock's repertoire includes Mozart's "Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen".
According to the silver plate on the front, this clock was given as a gift by members of the Musical Box Society of Great Britain to the group's first secretary in May 1970, "in recognition of his outstanding service to the society."
