DescriptionThe sound installation Aircilla emerged from the collaboration between sound artist Gemma Luz Bosch and installation maker Jurriaan de Vos. They combined their different qualities to create an interdisciplinary kinetic sound installation. They share a fascination with immersive work and look for ways to immerse, excite and make the audience curious. The installation consists of more than 250 ceramic sound objects that hang on strings and are mechanically set into a wave motion by a large steel wheel. The handmade unique sound objects swing and collide with each other and thus make sound, each with their own tone and timbre. Aircilla immerses the audience in a moving 'swarm of sound': the small interactions between the sound objects and the almost colliding or moving of the object in synchrony, gives the audience room for their own imagination and interpretation. From July to the end of October 2021, Aircilla was on display in the Nave of Museum Speelklok. Kinetic installation with a swarm of ceramic sound objects (250), moved by a large steel mechanism.
Accompanying textsJurriaan de Vos (jurriaandevos.nl) graduated from the Amsterdam Academy of the Arts (in Dutch: AHK) in 2018, at the faculty of mime. As a maker he is fascinated by movement. This often results in kinetic works that set space and/or spectators in motion. He likes to use transparent, mechanical constructions that intrigue the audience with their complexity.
Gemma Luz Bosch (gemmaluzbosch.com) graduated from the Utrecht Academy of the Arts (HKU) in 2021 as a Music Performance Artist. As a maker she uses acoustic sounds that are not normally used in music. Her passion for “how sound is created” led her to invent and make her own ceramic instruments that generate sound in different ways.
