DescriptionThe clock has a one-day movement with an off-center pointer shaft. The whole hours are indicated by the striking mechanism with locking disk on a gong. The movement has wooden platines and wooden spindles, and is weight driven. The musical movement offers the choice of playing once or playing twice. The four automata made of wood are decked out as musicians in red and white suits and hats with white feathers. As the music plays, they bring their instrument to their mouths and turn from side to side.

The keyframe comprises 30 keys. The disposition corresponds to the notes indicated on the wooden pipes. Two stops play on the 27 notes of this range: a series of covered pipes (8 feet) and a series of 5 covered and 22 open pipes (4 feet). The instrument transposes about a minor third upwards, so that F sounds like A flat, etc. 10 melodies are pinned side by side on the cylinder.
The first clockmakers in the Black Forest are mentioned before 1730. In the centuries that followed, the area would successfully produce many clocks, including musical ones, which were exported all over the world. Simon Dufner was based in the town of Furtwangen.
